Sustained care cessation smoking intervention for individuals hospitalized for psychiatric disorders
JAMA Aug 08, 2021
Brown RA, Minami H, Hecht J, et al. - A brief, multicomponent, sustained care (SusC) smoking cessation intervention tailored to individuals with severe mental illness was identified as effective in promoting smoking cessation treatment use and smoking abstinence in individuals with serious mental illness (SMI) following hospital discharge.
In the Helping HAND 3 randomized clinical trial, SusC was compared with usual care among individuals with SMI who smoked daily.
Greater treatment engagement and abstinence at 6 months following discharge were recorded in correlation with receiving a sustained care smoking cessation intervention
