Survival predictors in biopsy-proven giant cell arteritis: A northern Italian population-based study
Rheumatology Dec 11, 2018
Macchioni P, et al. - Researchers assessed the influence of disease-related findings and treatment outcomes on survival in a population-based cohort of Northern Italian patients with giant cell arteritis (GCA). Subsets of patients with more benign disease are identified by the PMR at diagnosis and inflammation limited to the adventitia at temporal artery biopsy (TAB), while they noted an association of the large vessel involvement at diagnosis with reduced survival. An association between increased mortality and large vessel involvement at diagnosis and between reduced mortality and PMR at diagnosis and adventitial inflammation at TAB was confirmed at multivariate analysis.
