Survival outcomes for induction vs adjuvant chemotherapy in squamous cell carcinoma of the maxillary sinus
Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery Oct 13, 2018
Kuo P, et al. - In squamous cell carcinoma of the maxillary sinus, researchers evaluated outcomes for induction vs adjuvant chemotherapy. They used 218 cases of squamous cell maxillary sinus cancer treated with surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy between 2004 and 2012 from the National Cancer Database and divided them into induction chemotherapy and adjuvant chemotherapy groups. Findings suggested an association of induction chemotherapy with improved overall survival vs adjuvant chemotherapy in a relatively small cohort of patients. A significant mortality hazard ratio of 2.305 for adjuvant vs induction chemotherapy was seen in multivariate Cox regression when adjusting for age, sex, race, comorbidity, grade, insurance, and T/N stage.
