Survival outcomes and factors associated with revision surgery for metastatic disease of the spine
Journal of Oncology Jun 30, 2018
Alamanda VK, et al. - Factors predictive of revision surgery and survival outcomes among patients undergoing surgical treatment for spinal metastasis were reported. By analyzing 55 patients who met the inclusion criteria from January 2010 to December 2015, researchers identified tumor progression, despite aggressive treatment, as the most common reason for revision surgery. For revision, smoking was identified as an independent risk factor. They recommend considering revision surgery in patients when indicated, since it does not seem to detrimentally affect survival.
