Survival of young vs old patients with oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma: A meta‐analysis
The Laryngoscope May 13, 2021
Lee DS, Ramirez RJ, Lee JJ, et al. - Via this systematic review and meta‐analysis, researchers investigated if worse oncologic outcomes after definitive therapy are experienced by young patients with oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (OCSCC) when compared with older patients. From Medline, Embase, Scopus, and other major databases, relevant studies were selected. They analyzed 22 studies with 23,382 patients with OCSCC that were managed with definitive therapy. Findings revealed that oncologic outcomes post-definitive treatment were similar between young adults with OCSCC vs older patients with OCSCC. Until compelling evidence shows clinically relevant disparities between these two cohorts, the approach for managing them should be similar.
