Survival of patients with liver transplants donated after euthanasia, circulatory death, or brain death at a single center in Belgium
JAMA Jul 09, 2019
Gilbo N, et al. - Researchers sought to evaluate the results after transplantation of organs donated after euthanasia. They identified a lack of data on graft and patient survival following transplantation of organs donated after euthanasia. They noted that graft survival is hindered following donation after euthanasia as it involves a period of detrimental warm ischemia, similar to donation after circulatory death. As there is critical organ shortage, transplantation of organs donated after euthanasia could mitigate the situation.
