Survival of brain tumour patients with epilepsy
Brain May 16, 2021
Mastall M, Wolpert F, Gramatzki D, et al. - Researchers used three cohorts of brain tumor patients (meningioma, glioblastoma, brain metastases), to determine links of epilepsy and survival in these patients. For comparative analyses, cohorts were split into three groups: (i) no epilepsy, (ii) epilepsy without status epilepticus and (iii) status epilepticus. The primary analysis sample included 1,792 patients (742 meningioma, 249 glioblastoma, 801 brain metastases). In multivariate analyses, inferior overall survival of patients with glioblastoma and brain metastases was revealed in relation to status epilepticus. In the light of findings of this study, it was inferred that inferior survival in malignant brain tumors cases may be conferred by epilepsy.
