Survival, nonrelapse mortality, and relapse-related mortality after allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation: Comparing 2003–2007 vs 2013–2017 cohorts
Annals of Internal Medicine Jan 29, 2020
McDonald GB, Sandmaier BM, Mielcarek N, et al. - Researcher explored if survival has increased over the past decade, and also investigated impediments to better outcomes. They examined cohorts in which participants received transplants from 2003 to 2007 vs 2013 to 2017. They evaluated survival outcome measures, along with transplant-related complications. In this study, 1,148 and 1,131 individuals received their first transplants during the 2003-2007 and 2013-2017 periods, respectively. The researchers found substantial improvement in survival and reduction in complications after allogeneic transplants. They indicated that relapse of cancer remains the largest barrier to better survival outcomes.
