Survival in low-grade and high-grade sinonasal adenocarcinoma: A national cancer database analysis
The Laryngoscope May 21, 2019
Shay A, et al. - In this retrospective database analysis, researchers studied survival differences between low-grade and high-grade sinonasal adenocarcinoma (SNAC) by analyzing demographics, tumor characteristics, and treatment modalities. This investigation is the largest to date that analyzes how treatment modalities are associated with overall survival in SNAC. In the main cohort, a total of 1,288 patients with SNAC were divided into low (n = 601) and high (n = 370) grades. The overall 5-year survival was 54%, 64%, and 38%, respectively, for all patients, low-grade and high-grade. For high-grade SNAC, but not for low-grade SNAC, radiotherapy was related to improved overall survival. Surgery remains essential for treatment, with radiotherapy offering additional survival benefits for high-grade SNAC. Chemotherapy administration was not associated with enhanced survival.
