Survival in differentiated thyroid carcinoma: A comparison between the 7th and 8th editions of the AJCC/UICC TNM staging system and the ATA initial risk stratification system
Head & Neck Jun 05, 2021
Cavalheiro BG, de Matos LL, Leite AKN, et al. - Considering a single tertiary institution cohort of patients treated on differentiated thyroid carcinomas, researchers sought to compare the power of stratification among the two last editions of the TNM staging systems (TNM 7th and TNM 8th) and the ATA initial risk stratification system (IRSS), regarding overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS). A total of 685 surgical patients were staged (with an average follow-up of 71.6 months). IRSS was more accurate in predicting DFS but not OS. TNM 8th was better suited to OS analysis than TNM 7th and IRSS.
