Survival in 31,670 patients with thin melanomas – A Swedish population-based study
British Journal of Dermatology Mar 11, 2020
Isaksson K, Mikiver R, Eriksson H, et al. - In patients with thin cutaneous malignant melanoma (CMM) in Sweden, researchers examined the melanoma specific survival (MSS) and conditional MSS (CMSS). For patients diagnosed with thin CMM between 1990-2017, clinical and histologic parameters from the Swedish Melanoma Registry were obtained. Until the end of 2017, patients were followed. The final analyses included 31,670 patients. Data reported that the overall 10- and 20-year MSS for thin CMMs, respectively, was 97% and 95%. For patients with thin CMMs, long-term MSS was confirmed excellent in Sweden. While the authors could show a decreased MSS for patients with 0·7 mm and above, the long-term survival and additionally a very favourable CMSS for those patients do not endorse more extended follow-up programs than existing Swedish guidelines.
