Survival and risk of breast cancer recurrence after breast reconstruction with deep inferior epigastric perforator flap
British Journal of Surgery Sep 27, 2018
Svee A, et al. - Among women previously treated for breast cancer, researchers investigated the impact of delayed unilateral deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) flap reconstruction following mastectomy on risk of breast cancer recurrence or on mortality. In this matched retrospective cohort study, they analyzed women with a prior unilateral invasive breast cancer who received a delayed DIEP flap breast reconstruction vs a control cohort of individually matched women with unilateral breast cancer who had a mastectomy, but no autologous breast reconstruction. No increased risk in breast cancer recurrence was noted following delayed DIEP flap reconstruction vs mastectomy alone.
