Survival and prognostic factors of salivary gland malignant mixed tumor-not otherwise specified: A population-based analysis
American Journal of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Medicine and Surgery Jun 25, 2021
Soffer JM, Nassif SJ, Von Plato M, et al. - Researchers conducted this retrospective cohort study to provide a comprehensive assessment of malignant mixed tumor-not otherwise (MMT-NOS) and determine prognostic factors. From 1973 to 2016, the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database was searched for patient and tumor characteristics of US patients with MMT-NOS of the major salivary glands. Four hundred thirty-four patients were identified with a mean age at diagnosis of 61.5 years. Despite its advanced stage and grade at diagnosis, MMT-NOS has a favorable 5-year prognosis and a low rate of distant metastasis. Nodal involvement, tumor size, and extraparenchymal extension were all prognostic factors.
