Bachoura A, et al. - The goal of the experts was to assess the survival and long-term outcomes of thumb metacarpal extension osteotomy for early carpometacarpal (CMC) arthritis. However, relatively high rates of reoperation and superficial infections were seen with the described method of fixation, the thumb metacarpal osteotomy provided some degree of pain relief and improvement of function. Because this procedure did not seam compromise future reconstructive procedures, it may have utility as a temporizing measure in younger patients.
