Survival analysis of total hip arthroplasty for high hip dislocation secondary to developmental dysplasia or septic arthritis of the hip

Journal of Arthroplasty Nov 15, 2020

Jin SY, Jin JY, Cheon JH, et al. - A retrospective study was performed to evaluate clinical and radiographic outcomes, complication rate, and survival of total hip arthroplasty (THA) in patients with high hip dislocation secondary to developmental dysplasia(DDH) or septic arthritis of the hip(SSH). There were consecutive series of 53 THAs in patients with a highly dislocated hip secondary to DDH or SSH between March 2005 and September 2014. The data observed similar clinical outcomes between the DDH and SSH groups. Nevertheless, poor bone quality around the acetabulum seriously affects implant survival outcomes. Radiological and intraoperative findings exhibited that the poor subchondral bone quality of acetabulum and superior and lateral segmental bone defect for late sequelae of DDH and SSH; hence, a cementless press-fit acetabular cup could not be inserted with sufficient initial stability.
