Survival after COVID-19-associated organ failure among inpatients with systemic lupus erythematosus in France: A nationwide study
Annals of Rheumatic Diseases Dec 15, 2021
Mageau A, Papo T, Ruckly S, et al. - In systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients, COVID-19-associated organ failure (AOF) was identified to be linked with a poor late-onset prognosis. Anti-SARS-CoV-2 vaccination in SLE patients seems to be a priority.
In this nationwide cohort study, each SLE patient diagnosed in a French hospital with a COVID-19-AOF until November 2020 was randomly matched with five non-SLE patients with COVID-19-AOF (908 non-SLE patients with COVID-19-AOF were matched with 190 SLE patients with COVID-19-AOF).
In SLE patients with COVID-19-AOF, 43 in-hospital deaths (22.6%) occurred vs 198 (21.8%) in the matched group; HR was 0.98 (0.71–1.34).
The HR linked with SLE for risk of mortality between day 30 and day 90 after the first day in the hospital for COVID-19-AOF was 1.83 (1.05–3.20; p=0.03).
