Survey of postoperative regional analgesia for thoracoscopic surgeries in Canada
Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia Feb 13, 2018
Shanthanna H, et al. - This cross-sectional survey of thoracic anesthesiologists was carried out in Canada, to determine their preferences and perceptions regarding analgesic options for video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS). Data showed that the use of analgesic techniques for VATS surgeries was variable and largely dictated by provider preferences. Relative to paravertebral catheter (placed either by the anesthesiologist or surgeon), epidural analgesia was still preferred by the majority. Comparative effectiveness studies and more uniform training for physicians are needed for a broadly acceptable choice that is effective, safe, and technically less demanding.
