Surgical vs transcatheter repair for secondary mitral regurgitation: A propensity-matched comparison
The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Aug 01, 2021
Okuno T, Praz F, Kassar M, et al. - Transcatheter edge-to-edge mitral valve repair (TMVr) and surgical mitral valve repair (SMVr) were compared with respect to their efficacy and clinical outcomes among patients with secondary mitral regurgitation (SMR). Researchers included and retrospectively analyzed consecutive patients with SMR treated using TMVr (n=199) or SMVr (n=222) at two centers. Two-years survival did not differ significantly between patients undergoing TMVr vs those undergoing SMVr. However, TMVr was linked with inferior MR decrease and LVEF improvement, and worse functional status at 2 years when compared with SMVr.
