Surgical resection for metastatic tumors in the pancreas: A single-center experience and systematic review
Annals of Surgical Oncology May 18, 2019
Huang Q, et al. - As approximately 2% of pancreatic neoplasms are metastatic lesions to the pancreas, researchers evaluated the role of pancreatic metastasectomy. From 20 institutions, they included 414 patients who underwent pancreatic resections as participants. Renal-cell carcinoma (RCC) was identified to be the most commonly reported primary neoplasms (54.3%) among the 31 kinds of primary neoplasms. Findings support that it is safe to perform pancreatic metastasectomy with acceptable short- and intermediate-term results. When RCC is the primary tumor, a better prognosis after resection can be achieved among cases that are asymptomatic or have a negative resection margin.
