Martín AS, et al. - Researchers compared bariatric surgery patients over 60 years of age with a control group with respect to surgical morbidity and mortality. They matched 72 patients in case group with 144 patients in control group. Both groups displayed the same surgical complication rate. The conversion to open surgery rate or 30-day readmission rate were also not different between the groups. This series had no mortality. Outcomes thus suggest no increased risk of morbidity and mortality associated with bariatric surgery among elderly.
