Surgical hand rubbing vs surgical hand scrubbing: Systematic review and meta-analysis of efficacy

Feng W, Lin S, Huang D, et al. - Via performing a comprehensive statistical analysis, researchers sought to compare the efficacy of surgical hand rubbing vs surgical hand scrubbing in effectively controlling surgical site infections. They searched major databases, including Pubmed, Embase, Cochrane library, Ovid and Google Scholar, and identified seven clinical trials, with a total of 764 healthcare workers for inclusion in this analysis. The two groups did not exhibit any statistically significant difference. Surgical hand scrubbing is recommended as a cost-effective alternative for the management of surgical site infections due to advantages such as ease of application, exposure to less dermal irritation, and less time consumption.
