Surgery and platinum/etoposide-based chemotherapy for the treatment of epithelioid trophoblastic tumor
International Journal of Gynecological Cancer Jul 12, 2018
Sobecki-Rausch J, et al. - The role of surgery in combination with platinum/etoposide-based chemotherapy in managing both localized and metastatic epithelioid trophoblastic tumor (ETT) was investigated via a retrospective review of women with ETT treated at a gestational trophoblastic disease center from 2010 to 2016. Findings revealed that in the treatment of these women, surgery, including hysterectomy and resection of metastatic disease, is a key component. They recommend using adjuvant chemotherapy with a platinum/etoposide-containing regimen in women with metastatic disease. Researchers noted cure in all women with ETT in this series using this approach, including those who had metastatic disease.
