Surfactant phospholipid composition of gastric aspirate samples differs between male and female very preterm infants

Sozo F, et al. – The researchers performed this investigation to analyze whether surfactant phospholipid composition differs between male and female preterm infants. They disclosed that phospholipid composition in pulmonary surfactant was different between male and female preterm infants of the same gestational age, which probably contributes to the increased risk for respiratory morbidities in one sex.
