Suprasternal vs transfemoral access for transcatheter aortic valve replacement: Insights from a propensity score matched analysis

Journal of the American Heart Association Aug 18, 2021

Brener MI, Olds A, Nemeth S, et al. - Among patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), suprasternal access was safe and conferred promising short‐term clinical results relative to transfemoral approach.

  • Two institutional prospective, observational registries were used.

  • Propensity score matching was applied.

  • Eligible participants included 89 patients receiving suprasternal TAVR and 159 receiving transfemoral TAVR.

  • In‐hospital mortality did not differ significantly between the two groups.

  • No significant difference in the incidence of major bleeding and vascular injury was observed.

  • No statistically significant difference existed in the frequency of left bundle‐branch block and permanent pacemaker implantation between two groups.
