Anesthesiology Evidence based | Nov 17, 2017

Hussain N, et al. - Suprascapular block was compared with interscalene block for shoulder surgery, focusing on the analgesic effect and safety, in a systematic review and meta-analysis. No clinically meaningful analgesic difference was noted between these 2 options, however, interscalene block afforded better pain control during recovery room stay. Fewer side effects were reported with suprascapular block. Overall, it was indicated that suprascapular block may be considered an effective and safe interscalene block alternative for shoulder surgery.
