Supraclavicular catheterization of the brachiocephalic vein: A way to prevent or reduce catheter maintenance-related complications in children
European Journal of Pediatrics Feb 23, 2018
Habas F, et al. - This trial was formulated in order to gauge the central venous catheter (CVC) maintenance-related complications of the brachiocephalic vein (BCV) catheterization via the ultrasound (US)-guided supraclavicular approach compared to the others (ie the femoral, the subclavian, and the jugular). It was discovered that the risk of central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI) and deep-vein thrombosis (CLAT) was lower in the BCV than in the other sites. A decrease in the CVC maintenance-related complications could be achieved through the BCV catheterization via the ultrasound (US)-guided supraclavicular approach in children hospitalized in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).
