Superior capsular reconstruction using dermal allograft is a safe and effective treatment for massive irreparable rotator cuff tears: 2-year clinical outcomes
Arthroscopy Oct 21, 2020
Pashuck TD, Hirahara AM, Cook JL, et al. - This multicenter study retrospectively was performed to assess individuals undergoing arthroscopic superior capsular reconstruction (SCR) for the treatment of symptomatic massive rotator cuff tears between 2015 and 2017. In this analysis, 14 individuals met all study criteria including required follow-up. The data exhibited that using dermal allograft, arthroscopic SCR can be a safe and effective treatment option for individuals with massive irreparable rotator cuff tears with statistically significant improvements in visual analog pain scale pain, American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons, Single Assessment Numeric Evaluation, and active forward elevation at 2-years postoperatively with 93% of grafts demonstrating vascularity at 1-year postoperatively. The data revealed that neutral abduction of the arm at the time of implantation resulted in positive clinical results and may decrease the graft failure rate.
