Superior anti-suicidal effects of electroconvulsive therapy in unipolar disorder and bipolar depression

Liang CS, et al. - The clinicians performed this study to examine the anti-suicidal effects of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) vs psychopharmacotherapy. Among patients with unipolar disorder and bipolar depression, ECT exerted superior anti-suicidal effects compared with psychopharmacotherapy. However, a lack of superior anti-suicidal effects of ECT was observed in the treatment of patients with bipolar mania and mixed state.
