18 F-FDG uptake velocity but not uptake level is associated with progression of carotid plaque
European Radiology Jan 10, 2020
Li Y, Liang Y, Yang P, et al. - Researchers examined the association between baseline 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake and carotid plaque progression. They assessed 156 individuals with carotid plaque who underwent carotid MRI (at baseline and the 12-month follow-up) and PET-CT (baseline). Carotid plaque progression was noted in 80 of these individuals (51.3%) during the 12-month follow-up. 18F-FDG uptake levels showed no association with plaque progression. They identified an independent association of 18F-FDG uptake velocity with the incidence of carotid plaque progression. A satisfactory prediction of the incidence of plaque progression was made with the 18F-FDG uptake velocity after adjusting for covariates.
