11C-PBR28 and 18F-PBR111 detect white matter inflammatory heterogeneity in multiple sclerosis
The Journal of Nuclear Medicine Sep 13, 2017
Datta G, et al. - Using PET, the researchers evaluated microglial activation in lesions and in normal-appearing white matter (NAWM) of multiple sclerosis (MS) patients. In the brains of MS patients, translocator protein (TSPO) radioligand uptake was increased relative to healthy controls with 2 TSPO radiotracers. WML demonstrated heterogeneous patterns of uptake. They found active lesions in patients with both relapsing remitting MS (RRMS) and secondary progressive MS (SPMS). Further investigation was required to examine their independent prognostic significance.
