Sulfurous-arsenical-ferruginous thermal water nasal inhalation and irrigation in children with recurrent upper respiratory tract infections: Clinical outcomes and predictive factors
American Journal of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Medicine and Surgery May 28, 2021
Franz L, Manica P, Claudatus J, et al. - Researchers aimed at comparing the clinical outcome in pediatric patients with recurrent upper respiratory disorders (RURD) treated with sulfurous-arsenical-ferruginous thermal water inhalation vs combined inhalation and nasal irrigation. In this explorative, retrospective, observational study, they considered 253 pediatric patients with RURD. Of these children, 231 underwent thermal water inhalations (inhalation of hot humid air and aerosol) only, while 22 underwent nasal irrigations combined with inhalations. Improvement in nasal obstruction, sneezing, serous, mucous, and purulent rhinorrhea, cough, and snoring was observed in 80.2%, 72.9%, 79.0%, 93.8%, 92.3%, 64.8%, and 60.4% of patients, respectively, referring these symptoms at presentation. As per outcomes, selected pediatric patients with RURD show good tolerability towards sulfurous-arsenical-ferruginous water treatment.
