Suicidality and risk of suicidality in psoriasis: A critical appraisal of two systematic reviews and meta-analyses
British Journal of Dermatology May 18, 2019
Matterne U, et al. - Researchers examined the link between suicidality and psoriasis by assessing findings of two systematic reviews and meta-analyses reporting the aforementioned link, which were each conducted by Chi et al. (Am J Clin Dermatol; 31(5): 798-807) and Singh et al (J Am Acad Dermatol; 77(3): 425-440.e2). Only cohort studies were included by Chi et al. and cohort, cross-sectional and case-control studies were included by Singh et al. A significantly higher risk of suicidal ideation, suicide attempts, and completed suicides was observed in patients with psoriasis examined by Singh et al. Chi et al, concluded that the assumption of a link between psoriasis and suicide, suicidal ideation and attempts is not supported by the available limited, very low-quality evidence.
