Suction vs slow-pull for endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration of pancreatic tumors: A prospective randomized trial
HPB Nov 09, 2019
Cheng S, Brunaldi VO, Minata MK, et al. - People with pancreatic solid masses were randomized to four needle passes with both techniques (Suction [S] and Slow-pull [SP]) in an alternate fashion in order to ascertain whether SP enhanced the diagnostic yield of endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration of pancreatic masses. No variation in diagnostic yield between S and SP was noted. In both smear assessment and cell-block, the cellularity of samples collected with SP and S were comparable. The bloodiness of SP and S techniques was comparable as well. In conclusion, S and SP techniques produce comparable sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy. Moreover, the correlation of methods appears to enhance diagnostic yield. Further, in comparison with SP, S does not raise the bloodiness of samples.
