Subtypes of delirium after ischemic stroke - predisposing factors and outcomes: a prospective observational study (PROPOLIS)
European Journal of Neurology Oct 21, 2021
Czyzycki M, Klimiec-Moskal E, Chrobak AA, et al. - As delirium is a serious complication after a stroke, researchers herein examined if there are differences in delirium subtypes in terms of predisposing factors, clinical characteristics and outcomes.
Among 698 patients with ischemic stroke or TIA, 28, 75 and 66 patients were diagnosed with hyperactive, hypoactive and mixed delirium, respectively.
Observations revealed development of hyperactive delirium in correlation with less severe stroke and higher scores of preexisting irritability/liability.
Outcomes were poor in correlation with all three motor subtypes of delirium, although less unfavorable prognosis was recorded in correlation with development of hyperactive delirium.
