Abbes M, et al. - Herein, researchers intended to scrutinize the long-term behavioural outcomes after subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation in Parkinson’s disease. Regardless, of a counteracting frequent apathy, the bilateral subthalamic nucleus stimulation was discovered to be very effective for the improvement impulse control disorders and neuropsychiatric fluctuations in Parkinsonian patients in the long term. The persistent occurrence of transient episodes of impulse control disorders was noted within the follow-up. Hence, a close follow-up was indicated in Parkinsonian patients displaying neuropsychiatric symptoms prior to deep brain stimulation surgery.
