Substituting abacavir for stavudine in children who are virally suppressed without lipodystrophy: Randomized clinical trial in Johannesburg, South Africa
Journal of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society Jan 27, 2018
Strehlau R, et al. - Researchers performed an evaluation of the effects of preemptive substitution of abacavir for stavudine in children initially without lipodystrophy and virally suppressed on a stavudine-containing regimen. In this study, virological response to treatment was not compromised by substituting abacavir for stavudine. In addition, substitution of abacavir for stavudine was associated with significantly less lipodystrophy. Results thereby support recommendations that favor abacavir in this population.
