Khoo S, Wong VWS, Goh GBB, et al. - Researchers examined 428 consecutive nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) patients attending five clinics in Asia in order to assess their prescription of statin and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol treatment targets. They identified the presence of dyslipidemia in 60.5% (259/428), however, there were only 43.2% (185/428) who were on a statin. Among patients who were on a statin, no achievement of treatment target was reported in 58.9% (109/185). Among patients who were not on a statin, an essential necessity for statin therapy was reported for 74.1% (180/243). These findings indicate the suboptimal treatment of dyslipidemia and emphasize implementing an intervention to improve the treatment of dyslipidemia in NAFLD patients.
