Sublingual buprenorphine vs intravenous or intramuscular morphine in acute pain: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized control trials
The American Journal of Emergency Medicine Mar 14, 2019
Vlok R, et al. - For acute pain, researchers compared the efficacy of buprenorphine when administered sublingually vs intramuscularly and intravenously. They systematically searched five major databases until April 2018 identifying nine studies that compared sublingual and intramuscular or intravenous buprenorphine. After assessing 826 patients, outcomes suggest that in acute pain, sublingual buprenorphine appears an effective alternative to intravenous or intramuscular analgesia. Sublingual buprenorphine seems to be a feasible option in patients with difficult or unfavorable intravenous access.
