Subclinical thyroid dysfunction is associated with adverse prognosis in heart failure patients with reduced ejection fraction
BMC Cardiovascular Disorders Apr 10, 2019
Yang G, et al. - Via this meta-analysis of 14 eligible studies involving 21,221 patients, researchers examined if subclinical thyroid dysfunction has any impact on the clinical outcomes of heart failure (HF) patients. They identified studies reporting on the aforementioned link from Pubmed, Embase, Web of Science and Cochrane Central Register of Clinical Trials. Studies published up to August 1, 2018 were investigated. The link was evaluated using the pooled hazard ratio with the corresponding 95% confidence interval. In HF patients, an adverse prognosis was observed in relation to subclinical hypothyroidism as well as subclinical hyperthyroidism. For predicting long-term prognosis in HF patients, subclinical thyroid dysfunction could be a useful and promising predictor.
