Subclinical hypothyroidism and thyroid autoimmunity in recurrent pregnancy loss: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Fertility and Sterility Mar 22, 2020
Dong AC, et al. - Researchers performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to examine if and how overt/subclinical hypothyroidism and/or thyroid autoimmunity associates with recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL). In addition, they determined whether outcomes improves with treatment. They reviewed articles from PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and CENTRAL. The limited observational studies suggest no correlation between RPL and subclinical hypothyroidism, as well as, indicate no improvement in subsequent pregnancy outcomes in correlation with receiving levothyroxine. A meta-analysis of 17 studies suggest existence of an association between RPL and thyroid autoimmunity, but no improvement in subsequent pregnancy outcomes with using levothyroxine. They recommend screening/treating women with RPL for overt thyroid disease but not thyroid autoimmunity.
