Subchondral tibial bone texture predicts the incidence of radiographic knee osteoarthritis: Data from the osteoarthritis initiative
Osteoarthritis and Cartilage Sep 24, 2017
Janvier T, et al. - This article was written with the objective to assess whether trabecular bone texture (TBT) parameters measured on computed radiographs could predict the onset of radiographic knee osteoarthritis (OA). In this study, they found several differences between the models predictive of three different outcomes (Kellgren-Lawrence (KL), joint space narrowing (JSN) and tibial osteophytes (TOS)), exhibiting different underlying mechanisms. These outcomes propose that TBT parameters evaluated when radiographic signs are not yet apparent on radiographs could be valuable in predicting the onset of radiological tibiofemoral OA and in addition to identifying at-risk patients for future clinical trials.
