Subacute combined degeneration: A retrospective study of 68 cases with short-term follow-up
European Neurology May 02, 2018
Cao J, et al. - For this study, experts gauged the clinical characteristics, laboratory test results, neuroimaging findings, and outcomes in patients diagnosed with subacute combined degeneration (SCD). The most common symptoms in these patients were limb numbness, limb weakness, and gait disturbances, and all patients showed some level of clinical improvement after B12 treatment. No correlation was found between anemia, low levels of serum vitamin B12, and MRI abnormalities in the spinal cord with worse clinical manifestations. Results demonstrated that the age of onset and course of disease were central for the appraising short-term prognosis of patients with SCD.
