Studying the effect of systemic and biological drugs on intima-media thickness in patients suffering from moderate and severe psoriasis
Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology May 27, 2018
Martinez-Lopez A, et al. - Researchers evaluated the impact of systemic and biological drugs on psoriatic patients' carotid intima-media thickness (IMT). Data demonstrated that the treatment with biological drugs, particularly anti-IL-12/23 and methotrexate could benefit the carotid IMT in patients suffering from moderate and severe psoriasis. Nonetheless, in order to fully confirm these results, larger longitudinal studies ought to be performed. In patients treated with TNF-alpha inhibitors and ustekinumab, a decrease in glycaemia and insulin levels was seen.
