Studying the effect of systemic and biological drugs on intima-media thickness in patients suffering from moderate and severe psoriasis
Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology May 24, 2018
Martinez-Lopez A, et al. - Researchers ascertained the impact of systemic and biological drugs on psoriatic patients' carotid intima-media thickness (IMT). They studied the patients with moderate and severe psoriasis from their psoriasis dermatological unit, analysing lipid and glucose metabolism and performing a carotid IMT sonography before the introduction of systemic and biological drugs. In patients suffering from moderate and severe psoriasis, treatment with biological drugs, particularly anti-IL-12/23 and methotrexate could benefit the carotid IMT. A decrease in glycaemia and insulin levels in patients treated with TNF-alpha inhibitors and ustekinumab was also seen in this study.
