Study of the association of DHEAS, testosterone and cortisol with S-Klotho plasma levels in healthy sedentary middle-aged adults
Experimental Gerontology Apr 02, 2019
Dote-Montero M, et al. - In a total of 73 (39 women) healthy middle-aged sedentary adults (45–65 years old), researchers examined how DHEAS, cortisol and testosterone plasma levels are related to S-Klotho plasma levels. They obtained blood samples in the morning following a 12-hour fast. Findings revealed a positive association of DHEAS with S-Klotho in men, while in women no association was seen. Both men and women had a positive association of testosterone with S-Klotho and both had no link between cortisol and S-Klotho. After adjusting for age, there was no longer a link between DHEAS and testosterone with S-Klotho in men, while the link between testosterone and S-Klotho and women remained, even after this adjustment. In healthy sedentary middle-aged men, a positive association of DHEAS and testosterone with S-Klotho was found, while women exhibited positive association of only testosterone with S-Klotho.
