Stroke-related disease comorbidity and secondary stroke prevention practices among young stroke survivors

Magwood GS, et al. - The disease comorbidity profile and secondary prevention practices were comprehensively assessed in stroke survivors, younger than 50 years. Comorbid disease conditions similar to older stroke survivors were displayed by several young stroke survivors. A large percentage were engaged in general chronic disease and secondary stroke prevention practices. However, less than two-thirds consulted a general doctor in the past 12 months. Primary care doctors and other health professionals served as crucial factors for the implementation of disease management strategies that regarded their age, secondary stroke risk, expected life spans, and other issues varying from older adult stroke survivors.
