Stress testing vs CT angiography in patients with diabetes and suspected coronary artery disease
Journal of the American College of Cardiology Mar 03, 2019
Sharma A, et al. - In the randomized Prospective Multicenter Imaging Study for Evaluation of Chest Pain, researchers compared a diagnostic strategy based on coronary computed tomographic angiography (CTA) with a functional stress testing strategy with a focus on adverse cardiovascular (CV) outcomes (CV death or myocardial infarction [MI]) in stable outpatients with symptoms suggestive of coronary artery disease (CAD), including those with diabetes (n=1,908) and without diabetes (n=7,058). Age and sex of patients with diabetes vs without were similar, but a greater burden of CV comorbidities was present among diabetics. According to the findings, fewer adverse CV outcomes were observed with a CTA strategy vs a functional testing strategy among diabetic patients presenting with stable chest pain.
