Strength and functional symmetry is associated with post-operative rehabilitation in patients following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction
Knee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy Oct 03, 2017
Ebert JR, et al. - This study including patients who underwent anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR), assessed strength and functional symmetry during common tests and its relation to post-operative rehabilitation. In many community-level ACLR patients, including those already engaging in riskier activities, a significant correlation of rehabilitation with limb symmetry was evident, along with lower limb symmetry below recommended criterion. Notably, it has been clearly observed that rehabilitation is not being undertaken by many patients who actually need it in order to address post-operative strength and functional deficits, and many patients are being cleared to return to sport (or are returning on their own accord) without appropriate evaluation and further guidance.
