Annals of Allergy, Rhinology, & Laryngology Jun 29, 2018
Alvi SA, et al. - Authors ascertained the incidence of early postoperative tympanostomy tube insertion otorrhea and obstruction in pediatric patients receiving antibiotic ear drops with or without steroid perioperatively. The incidence of immediate postoperative tympanostomy tube otorrhea or obstruction was not seen to differ between the antibiotic-steroid and antibiotic alone cohorts, regardless of effusion type. Authors noted a greater likeliness of the patients with mucoid effusions to develop tube otorrhea or obstruction at follow-up. When prescribing topical therapy, cost-effective drops should be used to prevent complications after ear tubes.
