Stepwise dose increase of febuxostat is comparable with colchicine prophylaxis for the prevention of gout flares during the initial phase of urate-lowering therapy: Results from FORTUNE-1, a prospective, multicentre randomised study
Annals of Rheumatic Diseases Feb 12, 2018
Yamanaka H, et al. - Authors, herein, assessed if the use of febuxostat with stepwise dose increase was as useful as colchicine prophylaxis in the reduction of gout flares during the initial introduction of urate-lowering therapy in patients suffering from gout as compared to febuxostat without any dose titration. Gout flares were effectively reduced by the stepwise dose increase of febuxostat and low-dose colchicine prophylaxis as compared to fixed-dose febuxostat alone. During the introduction of urate-lowering therapy, a stepwise dose increase of febuxostat could be an effective alternative to low-dose colchicine prophylaxis.
